Which flame retardant grade EPS bead should I choose?

Match the grade to your target block density: F-301/F-302 (12-16 g/L) suit standard insulation boards, F-303/F-401 (15-25 g/L) suit structural ICF and facade panels, and F-501 (25-30 g/L) suits high-density fire-rated applications. All five grades carry the same Class B1 (EN 13501-1) fire rating — the grade only changes bead size and expansion ratio, not fire performance.

Which FR additive — HBCD or polymeric?

Polymeric FR (HBCD-free) — meets REACH regulations and current EU environmental requirements. Avoids the 2014+ HBCD phase-out issues.

Compatible with standard pre-expanders?

Yes for standard PE-1200/1400. For FR-grade at scale (>1,000 t/year), upgrade to PE-1800 with ATEX-compliant handling.
